Monsoon Diseases in Mathura: Prevention & Treatment Guide
By Dr. Ajay Agrawal · 25 Feb 2026 · 8 min read
Every monsoon, my clinic sees a surge in dengue, malaria, typhoid, and stomach infections. Mathura and Aurangabad areas are particularly affected due to waterlogging and mosquito breeding. Most of these diseases are preventable. Here's what every family needs to know.
⚡ Quick Summary
- Dengue & malaria spread via mosquitoes — eliminate stagnant water around your home
- Typhoid spreads through contaminated water/food — always drink boiled or filtered water
- Fever lasting 2+ days with body pain? See a doctor immediately — don't self-medicate
- Keep immunity up: eat home-cooked meals, sleep well, wash hands frequently
- Platelet count drops in dengue — avoid aspirin/ibuprofen, use only paracetamol for fever
🦟 Dengue Fever
Symptoms
- High fever (104°F) with severe body/joint pain
- Pain behind the eyes
- Skin rash, nausea, vomiting
- Low platelet count in blood test
Prevention
- Empty coolers, pots, and tyres — no stagnant water
- Use mosquito nets and repellent creams
- Wear full-sleeve clothes in the evening
- Keep doors/windows closed at dusk
Important: Never take aspirin or ibuprofen for dengue fever — it can worsen bleeding. Use only paracetamol and see a doctor for platelet monitoring.
🌡️ Malaria
Symptoms
- Fever with chills (comes in cycles)
- Sweating after fever breaks
- Headache, muscle pain, fatigue
- Nausea and vomiting
Prevention
- Sleep under mosquito nets (treated with insecticide)
- Use mosquito coils or liquid vaporizers
- Spray insecticide in dark corners
- Get malaria test if fever persists 2+ days
Malaria is fully curable with antimalarial medicines when caught early. Don't delay testing — a simple rapid test at the clinic confirms it in minutes.
💧 Typhoid
Symptoms
- Prolonged fever (rising daily pattern)
- Stomach pain, constipation or diarrhea
- Weakness, loss of appetite
- Headache, coated tongue
Prevention
- Drink only boiled or RO/filtered water
- Avoid street food and raw salads outside
- Wash hands thoroughly before eating
- Get typhoid vaccine for children
Typhoid needs a full course of antibiotics (usually 10–14 days). Never stop medicines early even if fever subsides — incomplete treatment causes relapse.
🤢 Stomach Infections (Gastroenteritis)
Monsoon food-and-waterborne infections cause vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. These are especially dangerous for children and elderly who can dehydrate quickly.
Home First Aid
- ORS solution — the single most important treatment. Give frequently in small sips.
- Continue light food — khichdi, curd rice, banana, toast
- Avoid milk, spicy food, and oily snacks
- See a doctor if diarrhea lasts 2+ days or has blood/mucus
🤒 Chikungunya & Viral Fever
Chikungunya causes severe joint pain lasting weeks. Viral fevers are common and usually self-limiting within 3–5 days. Both are mosquito/airborne.
- Rest, fluids, and paracetamol for fever
- Joint pain in chikungunya may need anti-inflammatory medication (doctor-prescribed)
- Seek medical help if fever exceeds 5 days or breathing becomes difficult
